Hawaii rental car agreement

A little insight into your Hawaii car rental contract

Car Rental Info

Hawaii rental car contract!

Off roading and violating your rental agreement. Most of the major car rental agencies in Hawaii prohibit the use of their vehicles on unpaved or "restricted travel" roads. If you purchase rental coverage's or possess an auto policy with coverage's, they most assuredly will be voided when you drive on unpaved or restricted roads. I know of a guy that wound up with not 1, but 2 flat tires in a dry lava field. Be it a rescue helicopter invoice or regular tow truck invoice, these are not tow bills for the faint of heart and certainly in violation of the rental agreement. The fact that you are reading this, means you are doing your due diligence and most likely reading allot on this topic. We have been around since 1986, and suggest making the time to call your insurance company, also call the rental car agency direct (preferably on the island you are traveling to) ask to speak to a manager. Getting current information direct from your sources will shed light on an issue with some variables and allot of opinions.

Fuel Charges. Most companies require you to return your rental car with a full tank of gas. If you don't, you'll be charged the rental company's price for gas, which is normally more expensive than if you refill the tank yourself. Unless you are pressed for time, have a very late flight or early flight or simply want the convenience, you just may be wasting money. There’s normally no refund for unused fuel. If you prepaid for a tank of gas and brought it back with even 4 gallons left in the tank, it’s simple math. Even the option where they charge you only for fuel you actually use can be to the rental agency's advantage because the cost of having them refuel your car may be higher than the cost of doing it yourself.

Driver’s license requirements. At time of rental car pick-up all drivers must present a valid, U.S. or Canadian Issued driver's license in the driver’s name. Non-U.S. and non-Canadian residents are required to present a valid driver’s license and a passport from their home country. If the information on your driver’s license is not written in the Roman alphabet, you must also present an International Driving Permit.

Seeing is believing. When you get to your vehicle, shoot some video or snap off a several pictures. Understandably, easier in the daytime but recommended whenever possible. Check inside and out for anything that could potentially be considered damage Look for scratches, scuffs, loose parts, working power windows and mirrors.

Check, check! We strongly encourage renters to familiarize themselves with their vehicle before leaving the lot," she said. "This includes adjusting the seat and mirrors; knowing where and how to operate the headlights, windshield wipers, window controls, door locks, gas tank access and climate controls."

Non smoking and Dirty Fee. All vehicles in the today's rental fleets are considered non-smoking. Brands we work with (Advantage, Alamo, Avis, National, Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar, Payless, E-Z Car & Hertz) in an effort to ensure a pleasant rental experience for everyone, If it’s determined that the vehicle must be cleaned of tobacco odor and residue, the renter will be assessed a fee of up to $250.
